A little mix of my days in Düsseldorf and the installation process of the exhibition Present is Fragile. Present is fragile June 3 – August 25 Installation views from the exhibition with Nadine KarlCurated by Lilith Bitzer Vitrine in Hentrichhaus, Kunstlerverein Malkasten, Düsseldorf In the exhibition present is fragile by Nadine Karl and Majo Caporaletti, the vitrine is conceived as a liminal space between past and future, as well as between reality and fiction. On the one hand, it is a place where the artists’ past memories from their time together in the Chilean desert are made present, as they resonate within the works. Memory thus becomes tangible in the present and is preserved for the future, typical for display cases that showcase precious artifacts, mostly from the past. By analogy with such found objects, Karl’s glass objects lying in the sand also point to the connection between object, human beings, and nature. On the other hand, the vitrine is staged as a space that cannot be precisely defined, oscillating between the plausible and the dreamlike, marking a threshold. In Caporaletti’s paintings, scenes overlap as in a nightmare or a dream, reminding us how close reality and the imaginary are to one another. Not only the present referred to in the title, but also the associated temporal dimensions of the past and the future are understood to be fragile by the artists. Memories are closely linked to the present, because they are constructed in it and constantly undergoing change. And in particular, what is to be remembered not only individually but collectively as a society is constantly moving: for instance, due to a political agenda currently pursued by right-wing governments worldwide that would prefer to reinterpret the past.Fragility in general means that careful handling and constant observation are essential. Karl and Caporaletti highlight this fragility, on the one hand, through the used materials. On the other hand, they reflect on memory as something precious that they wish to preserve, while remaining aware that it may vanish in the next moment. El tiempo se pliega sobre sí mismoÓleo sobre tela83 cm x 240 cm(La descripción sigue en comentarios❣️) Time Folds Back on ItselfOil on canvas83 cm × 240 cm A painting I made for the exhibition Future is Fragile, in collaboration with Nadine Karl and under the curatorial guidance of Lilith Bitzer. The opening is today, June 2, at the Vitrine in the Hentrichhaus of the Malkasten in Düsseldorf, Germany. After several Zoom meetings with Nadine, we decided to create a liminal space, without boundaries between reality and fiction, as well as between past and future. The exhibition brings together memories, images, and sensations from our experience during a residency in the Atacama Desert, Chile, where we met a year ago. In this work, I explore zones of indeterminacy between what was seen and what was imagined in Atacama. Through the layering of different temporal planes, I construct an ambiguous space based on the premise that memories and dreams assemble scattered fragments that influence our present and shape our future. In this sense, the present referred to in the exhibition’s title is fragile, and that fragility extends to the temporal planes connected to it. The past appears as something mobile, as a time that folds back upon itself. The cast shadows of the dogs function as a symbol of memory and dreams. Shadows are elusive; we cannot grasp them. The same happens with memories and dreams. We can see them with a certain clarity and even recognize and reconstruct them. They are present, yet at the same time they slip away. Painting is, in some way, a means of fixing or reinventing those memories, images, and sensations that reveal themselves during the process. Painting offers a space where these overlapping temporalities find a provisional form through which to become visible. La inauguración es hoy, 2 de junio, en la Vitrine im Hentrichhaus del Malkasten, en Düsseldorf, Alemania. Junto a Nadine Karl presentamos The Layers en la R

Junto a Nadine Karl presentamos The Layers en la Rotonda del Künstlerverein Malkasten, en Dusseldorf, Alemania. A través de un loop de video de doce minutos, compartimos fragmentos de conversaciones surgidas en nuestros encuentros virtuales, atravesados por la distancia física entre Alemania y Argentina. Comparto estas screenshots de pantalla del video a modo de cadáver exquisito. El video ofrece una mirada al proceso de imaginar y construir nuestra primera exhibición juntas, que inaugurará el 2 de junio en la misma institución. Estas imágenes se superponen con registros del desierto de Atacama, un paisaje que dejó una fuerte impresión en ambas durante nuestra estadía en la residencia La Wayaka Current en Abril del año pasado.Entre distintos modos de pensamiento y realidades de vida, The Layers también despliega reflexiones sobre la memoria y la temporalidad, temas que ocuparán un lugar central en la exhibición. De alguna manera, y casi sin proponérnoslo, estos encuentros, muchos de ellos no registrados, fueron revelando cómo el proceso de preparar esta muestra nos permitió conocernos. Y, a pesar de las distancias físicas, culturales y de idioma, siempre tuve la sensación de que habitábamos un mismo espacio sensible. Gracias a @lilithfrida , nuestra curadora, que acompañó todo el proceso con una mirada atenta y sensible, y escribió dos textos hermosos sobre este trabajo. Y gracias al malkasten por invitarnos.

Muy entusiasmada ya que pronto estaré exhibiendo por primera vez en Dusseldorf, en una Expo en dúo.
